At Ireby, we are dedicated to creating a loving community for all, where all are celebrated as unique individuals and where passions and talents can flourish. We learn how God teaches us how to live our lives, how to grow relationships, accept others and use the words and example of Jesus as a foundation for all our learning.

Our geography curriculum supports our children's academic, social and spiritual development through studying a rich curriculum which enables us to support our children's academic, social and spiritual development.

Our children are taught how to be part of a loving community of learners – collaborating together, sharing their questions and ideas and investigating geographical questions to gain a deeper understanding of our world. Geography teaches our children how to be still, how to observe and give thoughtful responses, Geography teaches them about our world’s wonderful diversity and to appreciate the beauty of our locality, the rivers, mountains, and coasts. Our children explore the world around them, learn about the processes that shaped it and begin to understand their role in preserving it for generations to come.

Our aim is to fulfil our Christian vision through geography and support our children to be part of a community of loving learners, committed to knowing and understanding more about our world, about themselves and about their place and purpose in it.

Definition of geography: 'National Geographic'

‘The study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth’s surface and the human societies spread across it. They also examine how human culture interacts with the natural environment, and the way that locations and places can have an impact on people. Geography seeks to understand where things are found, why they are there, and how they develop and change over time.’.

We value fieldwork and first-hand experiences. Using our minibus we have access to our wonderful locality. We can study rivers from source to mouth, mountains and coastlines by walking on them. We also meet with the people who manage our environment (such as the National Trust Rangers) and learn about the importance of their work.

Throughout our work, we always make connections with our school vision, 'Created to do Good' Ephesians 2:10.
